Ingredients

  • 2 packages of Villaggio® Toscana Extra Soft Sausage Buns
  • 1 lb (500g) Ground Beef
  • 1 lb (500g) Ground Pork
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) Half and Half
  • 1 tbsp (15g) Oregano
  • 1/2 Onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of Garlic, minced
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups (500g) Marinara Sauce
  • 24 oz (680g) fresh Mozzarella, sliced
  • Olive Oil, for brushing
  • 1 cup (250g) Fresh Basil
  • 2 tbsp (30g) Hot Chili Pepper Flakes

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)
  2. In a food processor, pulse 4 buns on high speed for 1 minute, this should produce approximately 2 cups (500g) of breadcrumbs
  3. In a large mixing bowl combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, half and half, oregano, onion, garlic, salt and pepper
  4. Form into balls and place onto a parchment-lined baking sheet
  5. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and cooked through
  6. Heat marinara sauce in a saucepan, over medium heat and using a slotted spoon, transfer the meatballs into the sauce and gently coat with sauce
  7. Spoon 3 meatballs onto one side of each bun pressing lightly to nestle the meatballs in and top with slices of fresh mozzarella cheese
  8. Give the other halves of the bun a quick brush with olive oil
  9. Return to the oven for about 2 to 3 minutes until the cheese gets melty and the sausage buns get toasty
  10. Remove from oven and top with more sauce fresh basil and a sprinkling of chili flakes
