Ingredients

Base:

  • 4 Dempster’s® Original Hamburger Buns
  • 1.5 lbs (680 g) ground beef
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) Beer-BBQ sauce (or your favourite BBQ sauce)

Toppings:

  • 4 slices of smoked cheddar
  • 4 leaves (20-30 g) of green leafy lettuce
  • 1 jalapeño (15-20 g), thinly sliced
  • 8 slices (120-160 g) cooked applewood smoked bacon
  • 2 cups (200 g) pretzel sticks

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, season the ground beef lightly with salt and pepper. Divide into 8 equal balls.
  2. Heat a large cast-iron pan or griddle over medium-high heat. Once hot, add 2 balls at a time, cover with a square of parchment paper, then smash with a burger press or wide spatula until they are about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Remove parchment, season with salt and pepper, brush with BBQ sauce. Cook for 1 – 2 minutes, flip and then brush again with bbq sauce, cook for another 1 – 2 minutes, then top with cheese.
  4. Transfer to a baking tray, cover to keep warm. Repeat with remaining patties.
  5. To assemble, place 1 leaf of lettuce on each bottom bun, then top with two smashed patties, jalapeno slices, bacon and a handful of pretzel sticks.
