Show off your grilling skills with these savoury Mushroom Melt Hot Dogs. Dempster’s® Signature Sausage Buns are piled high with sautéed mushrooms and onions and topped with mozzarella for a hearty lunch or satisfying dinner. Serves four.
Ingredients
- 4 Dempster’s® Signature Sausage Buns (White), split
- 2 tbsp (30 mL) canola oil
- ½ lb (250 g) sliced brown mushrooms
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ tsp (2 mL) each salt and pepper
- 4 jumbo hot dogs, cooked according to package directions
- 4 tsp (20 mL) Dijon mustard
Directions
- Preheat broiler.
- Heat oil in large skillet set over medium-high heat; cook mushrooms, onion slices and garlic for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown and tender.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Assemble hot dogs in buns with mustard, mushrooms and cheese.
- Transfer to foil-lined baking sheet.
- Broil for 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese melts.
Tips:
Substitute Swiss cheese for mozzarella if preferred.
For a fancy mushroom melt, use a medley of mushrooms.
