Patty Melt

Ingredients

Sandwich:

  • 4 slices of Villaggio® Sesame Italian Style Thick Slice White Bread
  • 1 lb (450g) Lean Ground Beef
  • 1 tbsp (15g) Butter
  • 1 tbsp (15mL) Olive Oil
  • 1 large Yellow Onion, thinly Sliced
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) Beef Stock
  • 1 tbsp (15g) Butter
  • 1 tsp (5mL) Olive Oil
  • Sea Salt & Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 tbsp (15g) Butter
  • 4 slices Cheddar Cheese
  • 2 slices Swiss Cheese

Mustard Dip:

  • 1/2 cup (125ml) Tomato Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) Dijon
  • 1 tbsp (15g) Onion, finely minced
  • 1 tbsp (15g) Pickles, finely minced
  • Dash Hot sauce

Directions

Mustard Dip:

  1. Whisk all of the ingredients together, in a small mixing bowl, and set aside

Sandwich:

  1. Evenly divide Lean Ground Beef In half and form into two patties
  2. Heat up a skillet over medium-high heat then add in Butter and Olive Oil, once Butter has melted add in the Onions and sauté for a minimum of 25 minutes, until they are a deep brown colour, turning down the heat if needed to prevent onions from burning
  3. Pour in Beef Stock and continue cooking until liquid has evaporated, then, season to taste with Salt & Pepper and set aside
  4. Give the pan a quick wipe with a paper towel, then, add in Butter and Olive Oil, once the butter has melted and incorporated with the olive oil, add in the Beef Patties, and, cook on medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side and remove when cooked through
  5. Wipe the skillet clean again, and add in Butter, wait for the Butter to melt, then, add in all 4 Slices of bread to coat one side with butter
  6. Remove two slices of bread and then, layer the ingredients onto the two slices of bread in the pan, in the following order, Cheddar Cheese, Beef Patty, Swiss Cheese Caramelized Onions and Cheddar Cheese
  7. Top each sandwich with the remaining slice of bread, buttered side up
  8. Cook over medium-low heat for approximately 3-5 minutes per side, until the bread becomes toasty golden and the cheese is melty
  9. Serve with the Mustard Dip, in individual dipping dishes
