Slow Cooker Tuscan Pulled Chicken

  • 1 package of Villaggio® Toscana Extra Soft Hamburger Buns
  • 3 lb (1.5kg) Whole Chicken
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5g) Oregano
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5g) Thyme
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5g) Rosemary
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5g) Onion Salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground fresh Pepper
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 23 oz (675ml) Tomato sauce
  • 28 oz (796ml) canned Plum Tomatoes, crushed
  • 16 oz (475ml) Pepperoncini, including liquid from jar
  • Butter, for spreading
  • 8 slices of Mozzarella
  • 8 slices of Provolone


  1. Preheat a 5 - 6 quart slow cooker
  2. In a small bowl, combine the oregano, thyme, rosemary, onion salt, and pepper. Then generously coat the entire chicken
  3. Transfer to the slower cooker, and add in garlic, tomato sauce, canned tomatoes and a jar of pepperoncini with liquid
  4. Cook on high for 6 hours on high in until the meat is falling off the bone
  5. Transfer the chicken to a large bowl and shred the meat with some of the cooking liquid and the pepperoncini
  6. Heat Broiler to high then split the hamburger buns in half and place cut side up on a baking sheet, spread each slice with butter, layer with mozzarella & provolone cheese slices, and broil for about 30 seconds until cheese is melted, then pile with pulled chicken, coleslaw, and the top of the bun
  7. Option to serve with additional coleslaw, baked beans and pickles
